Janina was born in Nottingham in 1976 and began studying the Violin at the age of 7 through the local peripatetic system, changing to Viola at the age of 10. In 1994 Nina entered  the Royal College of Music to study with Roger Best, and after completing her BMUS Hons she continued her studies on the Postgraduate Orchestral Pathway course under Ian Jewel and Peter Sulski. During which time she played with the Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and English National Opera Orchestras.

Now a freelance viola player, Janina is based in London enjoying a great variety of work, from educational workshops, recording sessions and quartet work to playing with, amongst others, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Halle and RTE orchestras.  During the Summer of 2000 Nina participated in the Festival d’art Lyrique where she played with the Ensemble Intercontemporain under Pierre Boulez.

Nina  also enjoys working with her father Jazz Saxophonist Jan Kopinski and have recently recorded a CD of music they perform live to Dovshenko’s 1930's silent film 'Earth', which they are currently touring throughout England.
